Marine Insurance
Under marine insurance there are two distinct covers namely Marine Hull and marine cargo.
Marine Hull
The marine hull cover is provided for commercial ships and small crafts/motorboats used for social, domestic and pleasure purposes operating within Kenya’s territorial waters. Cover is against loss or damage to the hull, engines and accessories caused by perils of the sea, rivers, lakes or other navigable waters. It also covers loss by fire, theft, jettison, piracy, explosion, malicious acts. Latent defects in hull or machinery and third party liabilities on injuries and property damage.
Marine Cargo
Marine cargo insurance is a transit risk policy covering movement of cargo from one specific point to the other point of discharge. This policy is meant for goods being transported by sea or air. Marine cargo insurance policy provides indemnity against loss or damage for goods being transported by sea or air and incidental land transportation. The cover provided is in respect of marine perils (fire, explosion, storm, jettison, collision, sinking etc), war and strike, riot and civil commotion perils.
Before granting cover, we look into The underwriter will consider the geographical areas covered, mode of conveyance, nature of goods, age of the vessel, the voyage, political factors, physical and or presence of fog, atmospheric disturbance, safety of port of discharge, packing, transhipment prior to confirming coverage. Depending on the frequency of import/export, single voyage policies or annual policies are offered.
Aviation Insurance
This Policy provides cover against loss, damage or liability arising out of accident to the extent and manner provided in the Policy. The cover provided includes the hull, airport owner liability, hangar keeper liability, crew personal accident, third party liability and passenger legal liability
Goods In Transit Insurance
This policy provides cover for loss or damage to various types of goods while in transit by road, rail or any inland waterway within the geographical area set out in the policy.
