Personal Motor Insurance covers the owner with relation to vehicle being used for personal, domestic and pleasure purposes only. The scope of cover will depend on the insurance cover purchased.
The three types of cover one can choose from are;
Third Party Only:
This is the minimum cover required by the law in Kenya. It protects Third Parties against injury, Third Party death and or Third Party property damage caused by the motor vehicle. That is, Policy covers costs arising from an accident where the policy holder is held liable.
Third Party, Fire & Theft:
This covers the policy holder against fire to the vehicle, theft of the vehicle and Third Party injury, Third party death and or Third Party property damage caused by the motor vehicle.
Comprehensive:
This is the most recommended cover as it provides for financial loss following accidental collision or overturning, malicious damage to the vehicle, fire, theft, Passenger liability, Third Party bodily injury, Third Party death and or Third Party Property damage caused by the motor vehicle and the cost of protection and removal of the vehicle to the garage.
Extensions/Additional Policies
Political violence cover
Political violence cover provides for financial loss following loss/damage of personal and or business property due to acts of political violence and terrorism. The extension/policy covers against riots, strikes, civil commotion for political reasons, terrorism, sabotage, malicious damage, insurrection, revolution/rebellion, mutiny, civil war and coup de`etat.
